Passports

A US citizen must present a valid US passport for entry into Jamaica. Passport cards may not be accepted. Also, a return ticket must be presented at the time of entry, along with proof of funds for the length of visit.

Passports must not expire within 6 months of travels.

Visitors will be required to present the following documents to the Immigration Officers:

Customs

On your departing flight going through customs they may choose to check your luggage.  Going through security, before boarding the aircraft they look inside purses and carry-on.

As a visitor, be aware of the following customs tips and rules before entering the region:

  • You may bring up two liters of alcohol and two cartons of cigarettes
  • You may bring a “reasonable” amount of duty-free goods for personal use.  Anything deemed more than “reasonable” may incur an import tax
  • All prescription drugs must be accompanied by an official prescription

The following re-entry rules apply for the US citizens:

  • You may bring back 1 liter of alcohol or perfume containing alcohol, up to 200 cigarettes, and up to 100 non-Cuban cigars.
  • You may bring home original works of art, such as paintings, drawings and sculptures, and antiques duty-free

If you send home a parcel containing personal belongings that have been used, write "AMERICAN GOODS RETURNED" on the package to avoid a duty fee.

You may send up to $100 USD worth of goods as a gift to someone in the U.S. provided you write "UNSOLICITED GIFT" on the package.

Canadian residents who have been out of the country for more than 48 hours can claim up to $400 CAN worth of goods without paying duty if they carry the goods with them. After each absence of seven days or more, they can claim up to $750 CAN worth of goods without duty. Except for tobacco products and alcohol, they do not need to have the goods with them.

On arrival day, our airport staff will greet guests outside of the customs area. All Amstar staff will carry customized signage, and will be easily recognizable by their Amstar name badge and uniforms. Staff will facilitate the transfers and baggage to ensure an expedient departure from the airport. Once the guests depart, the airport staff will call the hotel staff to advise that guests are en route - this ensures that staff is staged and ready for your guests’ arrival to their hotel.

At the end of their stay, the guests’ departure will be handled with the same precision and attentiveness as their arrival. Guests will identify their bags before they leave for the airport. Amstar staff will be at the airport terminals to coordinate luggage check-in and bid guests the warmest goodbyes.

The average transfer time between Sangster International Airport and Montego Bay resorts is 15 to 20 minutes pending traffic.

Weather

The average temperatures in Jamaica range between 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 90 degrees Fahrenheit with July and August being the hottest months.

In February, expect average daily temperatures of 80 degrees Fahrenheit and an average 8 hours of sunshine each day.

The rainiest weather in Jamaica occurs in May and June and again in October and November. Showers are usually short, heavy and followed by sunshine.

Jamaica lies in the hurricane belt, and the official hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with August and September being the peak months. However, the chances of any single island being hit directly by a hurricane is very slim.
